She started listening to herself, then the magic happened.

Hello my friend!

How are you? I hope 2021 is going okay for you! If it’s not, please accept a squishy virtual hug from me. Can you feel it?

Today, I want to tell you about someone who might inspire you in these turbulent times.

I’d like you to meet Dana Zemluk. Why? Dana is an absolute powerhouse, and is changing lives every day. Dana will read this and will humbly think: “I’m not so sure about that.” But I am very sure and here is why:

I first met Dana through Toastmasters in Humboldt in 2015. From my perspective, Dana was kind, shy, reserved, and cautious. She had joined Toastmasters to gain confidence in speaking at her corporate job.

Over the last 5 years, Dana has changed dramatically (not only because of Toastmasters, but also through her own intense inner work and through her work with coaches like me). When I see her now I think: “Whoa.” She stands tall, is joyful, and has a magnetic presence. She has let go of the layers of who she thought she should be, and stepped into who she truly is: a confident woman.

When Dana and I spoke earlier this week on a 1:1 coaching call, she said: “I’ve changed so much because I started listening to myself.” Boom.

Dana stopped listening to others and started listening to herself. Here are some of results:

  • She’s started a support group for parents with kids who have special needs! After feeling alone when she found out her son needed an autism assessment, she realized one of her life missions is to help other parents as they navigate the ups and downs of having a child with special needs.

  • She recently stepped up as a director for the board of Humboldt & District Community Services, and one of her goals is to raise awareness and visibility for this much-needed non-profit.

  • She’s gained more confidence in her role as Humboldt Co-op Controller (no big deal!).

  • She sold her large house and downsized to a cozy home that works better for her family. In doing so, she created financial freedom.

  • She just started university psychology classes, and is completely lit up by them (even though she was hesitant about being the only 35-year-old amongst a sea of 20-year-olds!).

  • She is so proud of herself, of her two sons, and of her incredibly supportive relationship with her husband.

This is all because she started listening to herself. “Can it really be this easy?” she often wonders. Yes. It can be that easy, when you step into who you really are. By listening to herself, Dana has transformed into a powerhouse leader in all areas of her life.

Dana was part of the first round of Step Up, Speak Up in November (and she’s signed up for this next round too, if you want some Dana energy in your life!). Here’s what she had to say about it:

“I knew I wanted to use my voice more but I didn’t even know what that meant. I thought Amanda would help me with my social anxiety and I would speak up more in day-to-day situations. Now, I know there is so much more to using my voice and speaking up than just being able to strike up a conversation with a stranger in a grocery store. Now I know how I want to use my voice on a bigger scale and even though it’s terrifying, I have so much more clarity and confidence!

Step Up, Speak Up is a safe group of women who make you feel like you are part of something big. I have never felt so surrounded by support and love as in Amanda’s group. I am still surprised that everyone has the same insecurities no matter where they are in their journey - I don’t feel alone anymore.

Amanda is so kind and she has such a talent for getting people to connect. While she definitely pushes you out of your comfort zone, she ensures you are okay with it. She always has your back. There is always something you can learn here!”

Thank you Dana, for being a leader.
